That's Right, I'm Millennial!

about

What if John Denver were a millennial? What if his classic country anthem “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” were reimagined and updated for jaded Gen Y? What if it were sung much lower by a bass-baritone vocalist? The world no longer needs to search for answers to these age-old questions.

lyrics

Well once upon a time I was a country boy
But times have changed and I won’t be coy
I used to have meaning now I got this void
That’s right I’m millennial!

I guess it all started with the dot com crash
Or maybe it started with a system based on cash
Either way I got a case of whiplash
That’s right I’m millennial

Chorus
I’m short on hope, I could use just a little
My career’s on pause, the economy fizzled
Boomers and zoomers and I’m caught in the middle
That’s right I’m millennial!

My parents tried to teach me how to live and be good
All their friends seem to know how I should
But life has changed outside their neighborhood
That’s right I’m millennial

Rent has soared and wages stagnated
The income gap has only inflated
A house and kids just seems kinda dated
That’s right I’m millennial

Chorus

Skip the coffee and the avocado toast
Soon they said you can buy on the coast
But they never mentioned all the student loans
That’s right I’m millennial

Forgive me if I sound a little bitter
Right now the best thing in my life Twitter
Don’t even get me started on religion
That’s right I’m millennial

Last chorus
I’m short on hope, I could use just a little
My career’s on pause, the economy fizzled
Boomers and zoomers and I’m caught in the middle…
Life ain’t nothing but a funny funny riddle…
Forgive student debt and tax the rich just a little…
Stop burning coal and make a class in the middle…
That’s right I’m millennial!
